This school year parents can look forward to a user-friendly and convenient way to pay for their child’s school lunches and monitor the use of their child’s lunch money.
Dalton Public Schools’ School Nutrition Program is now offering access to MySchoolBucks.com, an online payment service that allows parents to make deposits into their child’s lunch account.
“A parent can go in, whether they have three children in the district or just one, and they can go in and manage their account and monitor their child’s activity,” said Karen Mecyssine, school nutrition technician.
To access the site, parents simply go online to MySchoolBucks.com and follow the instructions on the homepage to find the Dalton Public Schools system and their child’s name.
Parents can then deposit money as they wish and view how their child is spending the money they have deposited. There is a $2 fee per transaction, and the payments will appear on the child’s account within 24 hours.
“It’s pretty customized to how the parent wants to do it,” Mecyssine said. “And it’s a very, very secure site.”
Parents who don’t pay for school lunches or who choose to continue to pay for lunches with cash or checks can also benefit from the new system. They can still monitor their child’s activities in the lunch room.
“They can just monitor if their kids are getting extra milk or extra slices of pizza. It will show the money that’s being used,” Mecyssine said.
In the future, students may also use MySchoolBucks.com to pay for other school-related items, such as yearbooks, but for now, the focus of the site is on lunch rooms.
“This is just a really convenient way for parents to pay for school lunches from home,” Mecyssine said. “I’m just really happy for how user-friendly it is. It just really benefits everyone.”
Parents can find out more information by reading the parent letter from the nutrition program, following these easy-to-follow instructions on how to get started and by taking a look at MySchoolBucks.com.
