The Georgia Department of Education invites the public to review textbooks and other learning resources being considered for use in instruction in grades K-12 mathematics. The Learning Resources Evaluation site closest to Dalton is at Gordon Central High School’s cafeteria at 335 Warrior Path, NE in Calhoun, Georgia. The site will be open to the public through July 12, Monday-Thursday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The site will be closed on Fridays and on July 4-8. The purpose of the state learning resources evaluation process is to provide local systems with a recommended list of learning resources for use in Georgia’s public schools.
After educators and the public are given opportunities to review and make comments on materials submitted by publishers for consideration, the State Learning Resources Advisory committee generates a list of recommended learning resources. The recommendation process is based on a six-year cycle. Each year, the State reviews learning resources that relate to a particular subject or groups of subjects in order to create a recommended list. For more information on the 2012 Learning Resources Evaluation Sites and Review schedule or to access links to the publisher sites to review their materials that are being submitted for Georgia, please go to http://www.gadoe.org/Curriculum-Instruction-and-Assessment/Curriculum-and-Instruction/Pages/Learning-Resources.aspx
Learning resources that meet standards as set by the state are recommended. Each local system will determine which learning resources best meet the system’s particular instructional needs. School systems rely on the recommended list as their primary source of information about available learning resources and turn to it first when beginning their local recommendation process.
After the summer review, the Learning Resources Advisory Committee will meet in July to compile a recommended list of learning resources for approval by the State Board of Education.
