Vendor Fair 2012, a set on Flickr.

Dalton Public Schools held its first Vendor Fair at Dalton High School as a way to kick-off the new school year. The Vendor Fair featured 47 booths representing companies and organizations that provide services to the school system in the areas of instructional materials, maintenance supplies and service, and employee benefits. Blood Assurance was also on hand and conducted a blood drive at the event. The fair was coordinated in conjunction with staff development and training opportunities also being held at the school. The School Nutrition Department coordinated food vendors to provide free lunch, drinks and snacks for the event. The technology department worked with the vendors and presenters for the seminars to provide needed technical support. The Vendor Fair was the idea of Pat Davidson, accounts payable clerk at the central office. Pat worked with a team of people at the central office to make the event a success. Each school cafeteria participated in a dessert competition by preparing their favorite dessert. Employees were able to try the desserts and vote for their favorite. Theresa Thomas, cafeteria manager at Park Creek School, was voted the Best of the Best Award in the competition and was presented a trophy by Dr. Jim Hawkins, superintendent. Throughout the day, employees who visited the booths were able to register for a number of door prizes and pick up free samples that were available.Dr. Hawkins also recognized Dalton High School for hosting the event. Dalton High Associate Principal Steve Bartoo was on hand to receive a check from the district in recognition of the school’s support of the many district and community events the school is asked to host. Debra Holbrook, lead custodian at Dalton High, was also presented with gift cards for each of her staff members in recognition of their work in preparing for the event. Special thanks goes to JROTC Command Sergeant Major Heriberto Vasquez and the JROTC students who assisted as greeters and guides at the event.Via Flickr:This set represents photos from the 2012-13 school year.
