Morris Innovative High School teacher Irene Quintero was recently awarded the New Teacher Assistance Grant from Georgia Power. Eddie Kelly from Georgia Power was on hand to make the presentation at the school.

To be selected, Quintero had to be in the top percentile academically when she graduated from college, currently teach full time at a public Georgia school, and be in her first year of teaching. She is a graduate of Dalton State College.

“Dr. Murphy nominated me,” Quintero said of Dr. Lynn Murphy at Dalton State College, “and I found out in August that I got it.”

For winning the grant, Quintero gets $1,000 to spend in her classroom. “I hope to use the grant money for projects in which my students can see real life applications of math,” Quintero said.
