Little, City Park, First United Methodist Church Receives Honors

Dr. Rick Little may have retired in May, but he and his former school, City Park, are still winning awards. The Georgia Association of School Principals presented Little with the 2015 Georgia Distinguished Service Award and the Jim Puckett Outstanding Educator Award. City Park received the 2015 School Bell Award for its “Pay it Forward” program. The Dalton Public Schools Board of Education recognized the recipients during the August Regular Meeting. Summer PreK Students Learn About Recycling

SummerPrekRecyclingStudents in the rising Pre-Kindergarten Summer Transition program at Blue Ridge enjoyed having Liz Swafford, executive director of Keep Dalton-Whitfield Beautiful and recycling and education program coordinator for Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Authority, visit their classroom. Ms. Swafford wore her dress made entirely from recycled materials and taught the students how they could recycle, reuse and reduce trash in our community. Big Red READS is back for its sixth summer of reading and building home libraries. Every Tuesday and Wednesday through July 29 from 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., the Big Red READS bus will be near Dalton parks and schools with books for all grade levels. Continue reading
